Temperate Rain Forest

Part of living in the mountains means learning to deal with any type of weather on any given day, and oftentimes multiple weather systems within a single day.

For the past few days it has really proven rainforest status.  The ground is saturated to the point of being a swamp, everything is wet and the fog is lingering in the valleys.

Near sunset the clouds are glowing and the sun coming through the clouds leaves a full rainbow in the sky.  Although the atmosphere is absolutely stunning, it does not lead to much enjoyable hunting if you go unprepared.

So remember, when you come to hunt the Blue Ridge Mountains, be prepared for anything.  Bring plenty of extra clothing and wet gear.  But don’t be surprised when by the end of the day it is hot and humid.  The evenings and early mornings are chilly but everything warms up quickly.

I love these mountains for their beauty, unpredictablility and variety of nature, wildlife and weather.  There is no doubt this experience will leave a lasting impression and each visit ends with a new view of the mountains.
